about me
My name is Erika Parsons.
I am a 4th-grade teacher in Okemos, Michigan.
I grew up in Haslett, Michigan and remained there until I traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan to attend Aquinas College. At Aquinas, I majored in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies. I graduated in May 2015. I also was a member of the Track and Field team where I was an All-American hurdler.
Upon graduation, I student taught at Hiawatha Elementary School in Okemos, Michigan in a 4th grade classroom. Lucky for me, I was able to take a position working in the same school and became a teaching partner with my mentor teacher and two other amazing colleagues. I have recently completed my third year of teaching. See the Day Job tab for more on my classroom!
I began working on my Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) at Michigan State University in 2017 and graduated in August 2019. I am grateful for all I have learned in the program and love that I can apply my learning directly into my teaching. See the Learning tab for more about the program, classes and classwork I have completed during my time in the MAET program.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Ross, family, friends and our puppy, Lewis. We live on 33 acres of land so we enjoy gardening and walking the trails. I love to use our garden vegetables to cook up delicious food! I still consider myself an athlete and continue to run and work out as much as possible. I am also passionate about coaching track and field and enjoy sharing my knowledge of the sport with younger athletes. My faith is important to me. I am an active member of my church and like to volunteer with the children's ministry and local outreach. I come from a family of Michigan State graduates, so we are avid Spartan fans. You can catch us at every home football game in the fall and following all of the sports teams.
